about

"Photovoltaic" is a collection of drumset improvisations, compositions, and drumming ensemble music. The album was inspired by Japanese Taiko drumming, improvisation masters Elvin Jones and Terry Bozzio, as well as composers Elliott Carter, Doudou N'Diaye Rose, and Igor Stravinsky. I had always wanted to play in a big drumming group, so I wrote "Ensemble #1" & "Ensemble #2" and played all the parts.
